Prayagraj Kumbh Mela 2025

The Prayagraj Kumbh Mela, held in the city of Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh, India, is a highly anticipated event that takes place every 12 years. Six years before the Purna Kumbh Mela, which occurs at the Sangam of three holy rivers – the Ganga, Yamuna, and Sarasvati – people eagerly await this auspicious occasion with devotional hunger. Devotees take a dip in the Triveni Sangam during this period, which is considered highly sacred.
The Kumbh Mela celebration in Prayagraj involves various rituals and traditional religious practices. Temples are decorated beautifully for a period of 55 days or the Kumbh Mela period. Many saints from different groups roam around and perform various devotional activities such as penance and holy bathing. There are three Royal bathings at the Triveni Sangam during this period. Devotees also do the holy darshan of various gods and goddesses and participate in mass feeding of poor people.
Prayagraj is equally significant to the other three Kumbh Mela destinations and is believed to have received a drop of nectar, earning the presence of almighty Lords and their divine blessings. The next Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj will be held in 2025, and it will be a Maha Kumbh or Purna Kumbh Mela, occurring every 12 years.
Apart from the Kumbh Mela, Prayagraj has many other religious places to visit, such as the Patalpuri Temple, Bade Hanuman Temple, Nagvasuki Temple, Alopi Devi Shaktipeeth, Bharadwaj Ashram, Akshayvat, and Triveni Sangam. Many major tourist attractions such as Ayodhya, Varanasi, Chitrakoot, Vindhyachal, and Gaya are also within a few hours’ drive from Prayagraj.

Prayagraj can be reached by railway, road, and air routes. The Prayagraj railway station is well connected to various states, and local transportation is available to reach the Triveni Sangam. The Naini Junction is another nearby railway station, and the Prayag Ghat Railway Station is the closest. Direct buses are also available from major cities, and Prayagraj has its own airport with various local transportation options available to reach the destination.
